A comment on nations and language. Ever since the Europeans arrived in America the native nations have been denied their right to speak and learn to write in their own language. In schools, speaking their native tongue was not encouraged. In fact it was often forbidden. Not until recently, was anyone interested in assuring the native languages were written and taught in schools. The North American native people, the Inuit and other indiginous nations of the world are still facing the problem of assimiate or shut up. I'm sure you catch the reference to Catalunya.
On the other hand, my Catalan husband says repeatedly how tiresome it is to have TV3 and the government constantly pushing Catalan, and spending money on their international image when it could be better spent elsewhere. Linguistically, it's the same as the Albertans saying the Canadian Government is always pushing French down the throats of Western Canadians.
